Dulverton is a town and civil parish in the heart of West Somerset, England, near the border with Devon. The town has a population of 1,408. The parish includes the hamlets of Battleton and Ashwick which is located approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) north west of Dulverton. To the west of the hamlet lies Ashwich House, built in the Edwardian style in 1901.
Dulverton is a popular tourist destination for exploring Exmoor, and is home to the Exmoor National Park Authority headquarters.
The name Dulverton was first recorded in 1084 as dieglaford-tun meaning "hidden ford"-tun. The Domesday Book records it as Dolvertune and suggests it was a royal manor before the Norman Conquest.
The town lies below the Iron Age hillforts of Oldberry Castle, Mounsey Castle and Brewer's Castle.

The Anchor Inn

The Anchor Inn is a traditional pub, restaurant and B&B with six en-suite letting bedrooms. Overlooking beautiful rural surroundings shaped by the river Exe, it is situated on the southern tip of Exmoor near the village of Dulverton.

The Anchor is very much a country Inn and we offer a warm welcome to people enjoying the wide range of outdoor activities that the area offers: Walking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, shooting, hunting, star gazing or just total peace, quiet and relaxation.

The front of the Inn features a characterful historic bar which once entertained the celebrated English novelist R.D. Blackmore in the 19th century and features in his classic Lorna Doone. Overlooking the lovely riverside gardens are our large restaurant and function rooms, with doors leading directly to a covered outdoor patio area. These rooms are ideal for groups and parties and can accommodate up to 70 people in comfort.

We are proud to serve fresh homemade food sourced from local suppliers, taking full advantage of the fine produce that Somerset and Devonshire have to offer. We specialise in fresh fish, shellfish and game in season. Guests are encouraged to dine wherever they feel most comfortable and food is served throughout the Inn and gardens.
We are a dog friendly Inn and dogs are welcomed in the bars and gardens. They may also share designated accommodation with their owners.
