Isle of Wight - Ventnor

Ventnor is a seaside resort and civil parish established in the Victorian era on the south coast of the Isle of Wight, England. It lies underneath St Boniface Down (which, at 240 metres (787 feet), is the highest point on the Isle of Wight), and is built on steep slopes and cliffs leading down to the sea. The higher part is referred to as Upper Ventnor (although officially it is Lowtherville); the lower part, where most of the amenities are located, being known as Ventnor. Ventnor is sometimes understood as including the coastal villages of St. Lawrence to one side and Bonchurch to the other.
The sheltered location on the cliff of the Island's south coast means the area experiences a microclimate with more sunny days than much of the British Isles, and fewer frosts. This has allowed many species of subtropical plant to be successfully planted and maintained. Ventnor Botanic Garden is particularly notable.

Chine Farm Camping Site is situated on the south side of the Isle of Wight at Cowleaze Chine, which is mid-way between Chale (3 miles) and Brighstone (2.5 miles) on the A3055 coast road - the Military Road.

Our camp site has space for 80 to 100 tents, caravans and camper vans.  The camp site literally over-looks the sea and the beach, which is part sand and shingle, is reached by a short footpath.

The site is on level grassland and has 80 to 100 pitches available for tents, caravans and Dormobiles.

The area is excellent for sea fishing. We are about half a mile from the Dinosaur Farm Museum which was the HQ for BBC's "Live from Dinosaur Island" programmes.

The local village of Brighstone is approximately two miles away and has shops for all your general needs plus a public house.

Dogs are permitted, provided they are kept on a lead and exercised away from the camp site.

Self Catering Hotel Guest House/B&B

The Red Barn

Tel: 01983 721453

Large self-catering property specially adapted for disabled visitors and wheelchair users.

This large stone and brick barn is one of a number of historic farm buildings, some of which date back to the 1500s. It is situated in an idyllic setting on the outskirts of Rookley village, in a valley amid farmland and woodland, only reached down a farm track, half a mile from the road. It is however within ten minutes drive of the County town of Newport, with large, modern shops, cinema, pubs, restaurants, etc., together with more traditional farmers' markets and old style stores. The town is largely level, with good wheelchair access to most premises. Several local pubs and restaurants have excellent facilities for disabled customers.

Views from all directions are beautiful. The building is warm and welcoming, with comfort a priority.
