Isle of Skye - Dunvegan

Dunvegan is a town on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It is famous for Dunvegan Castle, seat of the chief of Clan MacLeod. It is also the hometown of Celtic fusion band Peatbog Faeries.
In The Norse Influence on Gaelic Scotland (1910), George Henderson suggests that the name Dn Bheagain derives from Old Gaelic Dn Bheccin (fort of Beccn), Beccn being a Gaelic personal name. Dn Bheagain would not mean 'little fort' as this would be Dn Beag in Gaelic.
The village is now home to four hotels/B&B's, a bakery, a restaurant, a cobbler, two general stores, one filling station, a garage, tourist information, a gun shop, a fishing store and a fruit and vegetable shop. It also has a recycling point and other small facilities. The Giant MacAskill Museum, which celebrates the life of Angus Mr MacAskill was established in 1989 and is managed by Peter MacAskill, father of the street trials cycle rider Danny MacAskill.

An Airidh is pronounced 'An Are-ree', and is Scottish Gaelic meaning 'the shieling' - a small house used by shepherds in the summer.

The cottage was built in 2010, and stands in its own lawned garden in a quiet, undisturbed corner of our croft in the district of Harlosh, north west Skye. The site of the cottage was carefully chosen to make the most of extensive views to the east to the Cuillin and to the west over Loch Vatten.

The luxurious and very well equipped accommodation is all on the ground floor. Beautiful views greet you from every window. You will find a log burning stove in the lounge, plus Freesat TV. The king-size master bedroom has its own en-suite shower room. There is a further bedroom, bathroom and spacious kitchen/dining room.

Outside, a patio offers views over Loch Vatten, whilst an area of decking is a perfect place to sit in the morning sun and gaze to the distant peaks of the magnificent Cuillin mountain range. There is ample off road guest parking.
