Axminster is a
market town and civil parish on the eastern border of the county of
Devon in England, some 28 miles (45 km) from the county town of
Exeter. The town is built on a hill overlooking the River Axe which
heads towards the English Channel at Axmouth, and is in the East
Devon local government district. At the 2001 census, it had a
population of 5,626. The market is still held every Thursday.
Axminster gave its name to a type of
carpet. An Axminster-type power loom is capable of weaving high
quality carpets with many varying colours and patterns. While
Axminster carpet is made in the town by Axminster Carpets Ltd, this
type of carpet is now manufactured all over the world.
The town dates back to the Celtic times
of around 300 BC. It lies on two major Roman roads: the Fosse Way
from Lincoln to Seaton, and the Dorchester–Exeter road. There was a

Bed & Breakfast - Our bed and breakfast accommodation features
two bedrooms, each having double beds, which share a luxurious
bathroom. Both bedrooms are fitted out to a
own house kitchen is our breakfast room with a huge old farmhouse
table that serves up a delightful variety of breakfast fare, ranging
from light Continental to Full English.
Directly off the kitchen is a large conservatory looking out onto
the garden with views of the surrounding countryside, so you may
wish to take your breakfast 'semi-al fresco'.

accommodation with a vaulted ceil, is set in a idyllic rural
location in the Blackdown Hills an area of outstanding natural
beauty, near the Village of Stockland in East Devon.

in a rural location. The living accommodation has a modern well
equipped kitchen, a dining area with far reaching views and a cosy

Whytings has 8 bedrooms and can sleep 20 - Knowles has 2 bedrooms
and can sleep 6. The 2
cottages are part of the same building, together they sleep 26.
Our two holiday houses are located on our farm which is situated at
the top of Hartgrove Hill, and from where you can see across the Axe
Valley and all the way out to sea. Whytings itself has a large
dining room table and large living space - perfect for gatherings
and parties. Knowles has two bedrooms (both ensuite) with a kitchen
and living space including dining room table. Dogs are more than
welcome here as long as they do not cause a problem with livestock.
There is a meadow available for you to use outside for relaxation or
are perfectly situated for quiet relaxation or indeed a number of
leisure pursuits. There are many beautiful walks straight from your
front door, and if you would be interested in doing some clay pigeon
shooting this could be arranged with my son Oliver who runs this on
site. The seaside town of Lyme Regis is only ten minutes away
boasting a beautiful coastline, various activities such as sea
fishing and fossil hunting as well as a host of lovely pubs and
eateries. We are also within walking distance to Hugh
Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage HQ where they hold events and
cookery courses, and the River Cottage Restaurant is only a five
minutes drive away in Axminster.
